Daegu Intl Body Painting Festival

Over the weekend, we met up with Courtney and Sydney (fellow EPIK teachers), and my new Korean friend I met last week.  Her name is Olivia and her English is really good.  She brought along her Korean friend too.  It was a fun mix.  Koreans who do know English don’t get very many opportunities to speak English in their daily life – so some really welcome the chance.

The Daegu International Body Painting Festival was going on over the weekend.  We checked out the action on Saturday.  It was really amazing.  Countries from all over the world (didn’t see any US though) came here to compete in the festival.  From what I could tell there was an actual body painting competition, as well as a costume competition too.

We got there early enough to see the models still in the midst of getting painted.  It can take 6+ hours.  And we got to see the judging of both the costume and body painting competitions.  Here is a small sampling of what we saw: (P.S.  They aren’t actually naked – in case you were wondering)

Visitors could also get free henna tattoos, their finger nails painted, and face painting.  It cost 10,000 won to get in – so we took advantage of some of the freebies.
