Success or mess? Micah’s 1st Korean haircut

Micah’s hair grows quite quick – he was in major need of a haircut.  And there are TONS and TONS of barbershops and hair salons all over Korea.  They can range in price – from very very cheap (about $5 is the cheapest we’ve seen) to normal expensive prices you’d expect in America (for coloring, perms, etc. about $100).

All Micah needed was a cheap cut, so we went to the place less than a 1/2 block from our apartment.  Micah brought some pictures of himself on his iPhone to show the guy what he wanted – since we weren’t going to be able to tell him in Korean.

The man pointed to a chair and then spent a meticulous 30 minutes cutting Micah’s hair.  He started with an electric razor but then used big scissors to do the rest.  He was very careful to cut every strand of hair and not miss anything.  It was really impressive actually.

He then motioned Micah over to a sink to wash his hair.  This was funny to watch from my viewpoint.  The man basically douses Micah’s head in water, scrubs with shampoo, and douses some more.  It’s no spa treatment here.   He has a big bucket full of water, and a plastic watering can – no other special equipment needed.

The haircut was 5,000 won and we tipped 2,000 won (although you don’t have to – and it’s not expected).  In our opinion, the best $5 haircut out there 🙂

Micah’s finished look – a success I think! 🙂

Great cut!! The pictures reminded me of when I used to wash the kids hair in the kitchen sink….”keep your head down and the shampoo won’t get in your eyes.” I think they still got some in their eyes and probably ears too. Love…
