TTMMGH – Korea edition #9

Subway vendors.  And no, I’m not talking about the sandwich shop.

It’s quite common to be riding the subways in Korea (the sometimes very packed subways) and suddenly be 1) listening to a loud Korean guy selling some random product and/or 2) be jolted to the side to make room for his cart.

They start at one subway car, do their schpeel, move to next subway car, and so on.  And as basic economics has taught us – they wouldn’t do this if it didn’t work.  I see people buying stuff from these vendors all the time.  It’s usually some cheap knick knack.

In fact, Micah and I are guilty ourselves.  My purchase = super warm, lined black tights (during the freezing winter), Micah’s purchase = wrist brace.

I think the other thing that helps the economics is that, well…I don’t know how true this is, but according to my friend Jiksu, anyway, a lot of those vendors get all their goods cheap from the Korean mafia, or work for them for a cut of the profits.
