Please note: If you’ve come by this blog wanting to know where this fantastic deal is…well, you have to be in South Korea. More specifically, in Daegu, South Korea (although I’m sure there are many other cities in this country with similar offerings).
I got a coupon for a free facial at URG Esthetic (as opposed to ‘Aesthetic’) located in downtown Daegu. Why the free facial? Sorry, you’ll have to wait a bit longer to know how/why I got this awesome freebie.
They don’t have a website, but I did just learn that URG Esthetics has seven locations around Korea (see end of post for info).
Anyways, the point is…the facial was awesome! And even if it wasn’t free, it would only be 40,000 won – which is roughly $32 US dollars!!! (And no tipping required). A similar facial in the states would be around $100+ guaranteed.
I was treated to a 90 minute facial (maybe even longer), which included:
- Round after round after round of oh so delicious facial treatments – and they were all so luxurious and relaxing. They did pick at a couple places on my face, but it wasn’t painful.
- A mini-back and neck massage
- A mini-foot massage
- A full leg massage. This was SO cool. They slipped my legs into these inflatable “pants” – and then hooked the “pants” up to air hoses. The air filled the “pants” with varying levels of pressure (think kind of like one of those DIY blood pressure machines that pulsate, but with a more loving touch). 🙂
Ahh…it was heavenly.
Although the environment wasn’t what you’d find at a typical spa back in the states (i.e. no private room with candles and aromatherapy) – it was relaxing. You slip out of your clothes and into a “robe” and then head to a table to lay down. You might be on a bed right next to two or three other women, but believe me – they are in their own little world – and you’ll soon forget they are there. I definitely dozed off during one of the facial treatments (insert random leg twitching, but thankfully no snoring).
You can definitely pay more for more high-end services (I saw one woman getting some sort of electrolysis done), but I feel the one I had was perfect!
Oh…one more thing: Many Korean face products contain some type of face whitening ingredients. I avoid using Korean products, but obviously had no choice for my facial. I couldn’t tell a difference afterwards, but two of my co-teachers said the next day that my face looked “whiter.” So…hmm.
I highly recommend trying this out. You’ll probably need to make an appointment (which may require asking someone who speaks Korean to do this for you), but after that – you can get by on your own. You can buy gift certificates too aka “VIP certificate.”
